Firestone Race Highlight
The red-sidewall Firestone alternates were the overwhelming tire of choice for the race, with nearly every driver who finished completing three stints on the alternates to just one on the black-sidewall primary Firehawks. James Hinchcliffe (30 laps/71.55 miles) and Justin Wilson (29 laps/69.17 miles) ran extended stints on a set of alternates without issue, helping Wilson to a second-place finish and Hinchcliffe to eighth place. A tire use chart for all the drivers throughout the race is below.

Race Temperatures

Ambient temperatures: 76°-80° F (24°-27° C)

From Will Power, #12 Verizon Penske Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone
"I learned a lot about myself this year, just kept at it. It was good racing today. It was hard racing, I can't believe how many restarts and bumps there were. It was crazy. The Firestone (alternate) reds were very, very nice, really good grip with the reds. The (primary) blacks were still good but just a lower grip level throughout. (Both specifications) kind of degraded in the same fashion, but very good, very, very consistent. We had no problems with tires today."
