Verizon IndyCar Series fans will get to see how three of their drivers fared on “American Ninja Warrior,” the popular obstacle course challenge show, when the episode airs at 8 p.m. Monday.
Helio Castroneves, Josef Newgarden and Tony Kanaan competed in a qualifying round recorded in Indianapolis in late April. The taping took place over two nights from dusk to dawn on the show’s first course with a curved design around Monument Circle in the city’s downtown.
Qualifiers from five regional cities advance to the finals competition in Las Vegas with a chance to win a $1 million grand prize. The popular show is in its eighth season on NBC, whose partner network NBCSN is home to 10 Verizon IndyCar Series race telecasts this season.
“It was incredible to be on the set of ‘American Ninja Warrior,’” Castroneves said during the April taping. “The goal coming into the competition was to show that Indy car drivers are athletes, too, and even though our training is a lot different than the amazing athletes competing here on the show, I am happy with how I performed. It was an unforgettable experience.”
